The Eighties saw a number of important historical moments including the fall of the Berlin wall and the rise of globalisation and the internet that have left an indelible imprint on contemporary society. This period was equally challenging for artists who reacted to societal change along with those who helped re-centre practice towards the domestic and private sphere. Published to accompany a two-stage project and exhibition with the same title at La Magasin, this catalogue forms the second of two volumes. It reassembles the most significant texts and images of works generated by artists in the 80s and focuses particularly on the problematic of the image and its representation. Participating artists include: John Armleder, Dara Birnbaum, Tony Cragg, Dan Graham, Jenny Holzer, Martin Kippenberger, Steven Parreno and Jim Shaw. While texts are included from such names as: Thomas Lawson, Albert Oehlen, Peter Nagy, Julia Kristeva, Peter Halley, Rudi Fuchs and Judith Barry.
